Brief Bio:

Pastor James P. Wood is the Founder and Executive Director of Wears Valley Ranch - a licensed residential childcare facility and child-placement agency with four homes for boys and girls whose families are in crisis. Responding to a lifelong calling to minister to the needs of children in difficult situations that are not of their own making, Jim and Susan Wood left a successful pastorate at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA in 1991 to found the Ranch on 100+ pristine acres adjoining the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Since its inception, Wears Valley Ranch has matured into a successful and visionary ministry that has given over 80 deserving young people a chance to receive a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ in an environment where his gospel is truly manifested in the lives of the staff.

Graduating Magna Cum Laude from Gordon College in 1975 and Summa Cum Laude from Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary in 1979, Jim served the Lord in pastoral ministry for 12 years. Jim retains the title "Pastor at Large" at Mt. Vernon and preaches there regularly. Jim and Susan Wood do not take a salary from Wears Valley Ranch, but rather support themselves through Abiding in Christ Ministries and the distribution of their 8 books. Abiding in Christ is an international outreach that engages in preaching, teaching, evangelism and workshop style seminars dealing with subjects ranging from Parenting to Marriage to living a life of Prayer. Jim is a gifted communicator and an insightful expositor who comes from a reformed theological tradition. In 2005, Jim spoke 30 times to 7different denominations and makes frequent Radio, TV and international appearances. He is also the host of Abiding in Christ - a syndicated radio program that can be heard nationwide on XM 170 Family Talk, Sirius Channel 161 Christian Talk.
